HairCycle – A Year in Regenerative Design

Studio Car is proud to present its second collaboration with the innovative material design research studio Studio Sanne Visser, known for pioneering sustainable solutions with a distinct focus on regenerative design. This new film project follows the year-long journey of HairCycle — a bold and imaginative initiative rethinking waste, community, and circular design through one unexpected material: human hair.

Premiering in early June at Vue Cinema London – Westfield Stratford, the documentary intimately captures the evolution and impact of HairCycle across the London Borough of Newham. Over the course of a year, our team followed workshops, community events, and design experiments, capturing the energy and creativity of everyone involved. Through in-depth interviews with Sanne and her team, local residents, policy makers, and other key collaborators, the film not only documents a design process but also reflects on broader questions: What does it mean to design regeneratively? How can overlooked materials strengthen local ecosystems? And how can creative practices bring people together?

HairCycle – A Year in Regenerative Design is a tribute to the people of Newham, a celebration of circular thinking, and a glimpse into a future where even the smallest strands can spark meaningful change.
